Northwest Demolition was contracted for the removal of vegetation at the Ft. McCoy range. This removal effort involved primarily removing tree that had grown on the range with diameters up to 20”. All of Northwest Demolition’s work on the range required the use of unmanned robotic equipment. An EC380 excavator fitted with a hydraulic tree shear was used for the removal of more than 2000 trees. Operators stationed up to 3000’ away controlled the equipment using an array of HD cameras for interface with the equipment. Because of the topography of the site, a beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) repeating system was employed for uninterrupted connections to camera and operational systems.
